Policy Against Feeding Canadian Geese

By Musserfamily, 25 February, 2025

Dear Residents,

We would like to raise your awareness that feeding geese and other waterfowl is against the policies of the Lake Barcroft Association and is strongly discouraged in our community on both common areas and private property.

The reasons are as follows:

  • Feeding geese can increase the spread of wildlife-transmitted diseases as it encourages geese to congregate on lawns, docks, seawalls, or beaches, which in turn leads to a buildup of droppings and unsanitary conditions.
  • The fouling of property creates a nuisance for the neighbors of those feeding the geese.
  • Feeding geese promotes aggression among geese towards humans.
  • Feeding geese is bad for the geese themselves as it interrupts the animals normal behavior patterns. Geese can develop wing deformities and other problems when fed by humans.

Furthermore, the Lake Barcroft Geese Peace program works to reduce the nuisance of geese at the lake and its activities are thwarted by feeding that encourages geese to congregate on lawns.

Please do not feed the geese.  We are grateful for your cooperation.

Sincerely Yours,

The LBA Board of Directors
